Project Description

1)     Exploring the predisposing and enabling factors that are associated with the use of formal care services.

2)     Exploring the association between the use of formal care, needs and quality of life in PwD and their informal carers.

3)     Comparing these across participating EU countries.

A one-year cohort study will be carried out in the eight partner countries (Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and the United Kingdom). The study population will consist of persons with dementia in need of formal care and their informal carers. Study data will include clinical information regarding cognitive function, behaviour, activities of daily living, met and un met needs, socio-demographic variables, relationship characteristics of the persons with dementia and their carers, and related economic aspects. The results of the cohort study will be used to develop best-practice strategies (WP5) and dissemination activities (WP6).
